The latest designs from the Dennis Chinaworks will be presented by Richard Dennis at the Florida show from January 29th to 31st. Designer Sally Tuffin has created several new pieces exclusively for Pascoe and Company and these will be launched at the show.

HAND-MADE IN ENGLAND

The Dennis Chinaworks is situated in the converted stables of a Victorian rectory in rural Somerset where a group of talented young artists work from Sally’s designs. They still throw their vases on a potter’s wheel, which gives them a wonderful tactile finish. Incised, tube-lined and modeled decorations are then applied before hand-painting in vibrant colors. Recently they have been experimenting with iridescent luster painting, which adds a new dimension to their work.

FROCKS TO POTS

Sally Tuffin was a famous fashion designer in the swinging sixties with a boutique off Carnaby Street in London. Her trendy trouser suits and mini skirts are now in the news once again thanks to the retrospective Foale & Tuffin exhibition currently at the London Fashion and Textile Museum. Sally switched from making frocks to designing pots in the 1980s and used her expertise with dress making patterns to create ‘outfits’ for vases. After helping to revitalize Moorcroft, she turned her attention to her own ‘label’ and for the last ten years she has concentrated on designing for the Dennis Chinaworks. Each year, she launches a collection of unique new designs at Bonhams in London and they are acquired by collectors for thousands of pounds each.
