Doulton Lambeth Wares

Doulton Lambeth Wares

Iconic pieces from Doulton’s Lambeth Pottery have recently been acquired by Pascoe and Company. Many have been hidden away for years in private hands, including the famous Harriman-Judd and Dombeck collections. Some were formerly in Doulton’s own archive collection which went on the market in the late 1990s. These were the same pieces photographed for the Doulton Lambeth Wares book by Louise Irvine in 1995. Some were also illustrated in Richard Dennis’ first exhibition catalogs in the early 1970s

Peggy Davies

Peggy Davies

Peggy’s Royal Doulton career began at the age of 17 in 1939 as assistant to Charles Noke who was by then in his eighties. Previously Peggy had worked for Clarice Cliff as a modeler for three years while completing her scholarship at the Burslem College of Art. At Doulton she began by modeling animals, including birds, cats and dogs for the HN collection. When the Burslem Pottery was bombed in October 1940, Peggy worked with Noke at his home studio before training as a nurse for the war effort.

Michael Doulton is the sixth generation to be involved in the renowned Royal Doulton Company. In 1815, Michael’s great, great, great grandfather, John Doulton, founded a little pottery on the banks of the river Thames in London and this has grown into one of the world’s most famous producers of fine china.

Charles Noke

Charles Noke - Royal Doulton Art Director

Charles J. Noke was the most influential artist ever to work for Royal Doulton and his name crops up frequently on the most collectible designs. Noke joined Doulton’s Burslem studio as a modeler in 1889 and went on to become the company’s greatest Art Director, influencing every aspect of the company’s production.
