Peggy’s Royal Doulton career began at the age of 17 in 1939 as assistant to Charles Noke who was by then in his eighties. Previously Peggy had worked for Clarice Cliff as a modeler for three years while completing her scholarship at the Burslem College of Art. At Doulton she began by modeling animals, including birds, cats and dogs for the HN collection. When the Burslem Pottery was bombed in October 1940, Peggy worked with Noke at his home studio before training as a nurse for the war effort. Read the rest of this entry »
