Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre

Wedgwood Fairyland Catalogue

Fairyland Lustre Wedgwood’s Fairyland Lustre was launched in 1915, the same year as Doulton’s Titanian ware. The iridescent lustre effects were achieved by up to six firings so it was very expensive to produce. The intricate gold detailing added to the complexity of these designs and created a mysterious and magical effect. Wedgwood’s new lustre technique was used most famously by Daisy Makeig-Jones who created her vision of fairyland on a wide range of vases, bowls and cups. Fairyland lustre enjoyed immense popularity until 1929, the year of the Wall Street crash. Daisy was asked to leave Wedgwood the following year and in a dramatic gesture she smashed her pots as she went. Fairyland lustre is now extremely desirable amongst collectors.
